Vaud

Vaud is a beautiful canton located in Switzerland where you find one of the most evocative chateaux, the Chillon and the stunning Gothic cathedral, the Cathedrale de Notre Dame. Walking through Vaud you could find at arms’ length, different cultures, traditions, cuisine, and yes, unending rows of Swiss Alps.

Vaud has been the perfect tourist destination since the 19th century, especially for those with artistic inclinations. There are lots of activities for tourist on a visit to Vaud - visitors can opt to ski on the various skiing slopes, hiking and mountain biking in summer on its trails and high-altitude passes and of course, tasting its food. Vaud is considered to be one of the main wine producing regions of Switzerland; and to find out if this is true, you can make a visit to the local vintages. Here you can taste the various wines Vaud has to offer like the open wines, fruity wines, flowery wines, and the wines from the local harvest which is not aged.

The fondue is another dish that Vaud is famous for. The local cheese is found in different stages; young and mild, ripe and savory and aged cheese. The dish fondue is basically cheese that is melted with white wine, garlic and some kirsch which should be eaten with fruity white wine or plain black tea. Never eat fondue with red wine, cola or beer or with much ice as fondue makes you yearn for water.

Besides wine, skiing and fondue, you find many sights worth visiting in Vaud like the museum, Alimentarium, various chateaux, the Glacier 3000 that is a transportation site, various museums and an amusement park, the Swiss Vapeur Park.
